How do I fix my e-mail notifications for private messages?

If it seems like your e-mail notifications aren't working because you received an e-mail from TripAdvisor notifying you of a new private message, but you don't see the message in your Messages inbox, it is because we occasionally remove messages from member inboxes when we get complaints about abuse of our private messaging feature. Abuse includes messages containing advertising, spam, or inappropriate content according to our guidelines. We delete these messages to minimise unnecessary exposure of such material to our members.

In these cases, we are unable to retract the e-mail notification that you received, as notifications usually go out immediately after the message is sent.
